Summary:

All is not well for brilliant but boorish Dr. Martin Ellingham as the hit British dramedy returns. To Martin's utter disgust, his medical practice remains under official scrutiny because of his pre-existing blood phobia, and he is forced to attend refresher courses starting with phlebotomy. His wife, Louisa, and aunt Ruth urge him to take this risk to his career seriously, but events conspire against him.

British actor and director Martin Clunes stars as surgeon-turned-GP Dr. Martin Ellingham in this sixth season of the comedy-drama. Set in the fictional sleepy Cornish village of Portwenn, the story opens with the wedding of cranky Doc Martin and school headmistress Louise, played by Caroline Catz. The scenery is marvelous, and the photography enhances the setting, as does the pleasing music. Portwenn remains a village populated by well--portrayed eccentric yet endearing characters, presented with mostly droll and quirky humor. At times, the episodes are dark and serious rather than charming and amusing, but overall this is an entertaining show. Bonus material includes behind-the-scenes images and photo galleries. A seventh season is planned to shoot in 2015. VERDICT This program will be of interest to fans of British comedy.-Denise A. Garofalo, Mount Saint Mary Coll. Lib., Newburgh, NY (c) Copyright 2014.
